India is a vast country with a rich heritage and culture. A number of monuments were made by people of different dynasty in this country who ruled this country. These monuments are real marvels to be appreciated despite to which dynasty they belong to. Here are few great monuments symbolizing the royalty.
1. Red Fort, Delhi
This fort is made from red stone and is located in New Delhi, capital of India. It is now declared a world heritage by UNESCO. It was built by Mughal emperor Shahjanhan. Its construction was atarted in 1638 and was built in period of 10 years. It was built with 14 gates, the major one are Mori, Lahori, Ajmeri, Turkman, Kashmiri and Delhi gates, few of them have already demolished. The river Yamuna runs at its one side.
2. Amber or Amer Fort, Rajasthan
It is situated in Jaipur, the pink city of Rajasthan. It is one the most visited forts of Rajasthan. It is constructed on a beautiful hill of Jaipur and is considered as gem of Rajput dynasty. The Maota lake’s presence in this place adds a feather to its beauty. It is said that treasures were hidden by the kind in the walls of fort and therefore it has number of secret chambers. The architecture of this fort is an incredible fusion of Mughal, Hindu and Rajput culture. It was built by Raja Man Singh.
3. Agra Fort, Agra
Agra city is not only famous for its great monument Taj Mahal, but is place to watch for number other incredible monuments. Agra fort is one of them, and belongs to Mughal dynasty. Its structure is also red in colour as is made of red stone like Red Fort of Delhi. Vast garden at its entry make it a real beauty to admire. It was also built by king Shahjahan. Taj-Mahal is visible from its top.
4. Jaisalmer Fort, Rajasthan
A real glimpse of royalty is being shown by this fort. It is constructed to have its top at very height, therefore is visible from a larger distance too. It is made of yellow coloured sand stones. This monument glitters like a gold, when sunrays fall over it. It is also tagged as one of the world’s largest monument. It stands proudly on Trikuta Hill of Thar Desert, and is a living witness of innumerable battles. It is also named as Sonar Kila due to its gold haze developed during sunset.
5. Daulatabad Fort, Aurangabad
The fort of Daulatabad is situated in Aurangabad city. Its beauty is blessed with lush green gardens in it. Due to its vintage appearance it attracts tourist from the world. It was built in 12 century by Raja Bhillamraj. Its current name was given by Muhamad Tughlaq, sultan of Delhi.The lounge of fort are curved with endless, puzzled and a series of secret passages just like a python. These were used to pour down hot oil or blazing torches upon the enemies during the battle.
6. Golkonda Fort, Hyderabad
It is located Hyderabad city. It was built by the dynasty of Kakatiya. This dynasty was succeeded by ruler Quli Qutub Shah Wali, who made a number of renovations in it. It is famous for its amazing acoustic engineering. It is so designed that one hand clap at any point can be heard very clearly at the highest point of fort. Inside the fort a 800 years old tree is also a spot of attraction. It is also believed that there is a secret tunnel in it, which starts from durbar hall and ends at the foot of hill.
7. Junagarh Fort, Rajasthan
Junagarh fort is situated in Bikaner city of Rajasthan. It was built in 1589 by Raja Rai Singh. The corridors, art galleries and courtyard make its architecture very beautiful. It is made with the stones having scattering colours.
8. Gwalior Fort,Madhya Pradesh
It is a well maintained fort in Madhya Pradesh. Its great artwork speaks its glory through its pillars and walls. It encloses 3 temples and number of water tanks. The main fort was built by Tomar dynasty during 8th century. In 15th century Raja Man Singh Tomar constructed Gurjari Mahal and Man Mandir Palace for his queen Mrignayani. The Gurjari Mahal has been turned into an archaeological museum, which has very old collection back from 1st century AD.
9. Jhansi Fort, Uttar Pradesh
It is among the beautiful forts of India. It was buit by Bir Singh Ji Deo king of Orcha in 1613. It was built on the hills of Bangra. It reminds us the courageous queen of Jhansi, Rani Lakshmi Bai. She was one of the great warriors who led the India’s first revolt against British East India Company in 1857. It is big fort with10 gates, namely Chand Gate, Orcha Gate, Sainyar Gate, Sagar Gate, Laxmi Gate, Jharna Gate, Unnao Gate, Datia Darwaza, and last but not the least Khandero Gate. Now a museum is their preserving the signs of rich Bundelkhand culture. Famous cannons of Rani Lakshmi Bai, Karak Bijli and Bhawani Shankar are also kept inside the fort.
10. Chittorgarh Fort, Rajasthan
It is another fort in great land of Rajput warriors, Rajasthan. It is built with many temples, private halls and public places etc. It is world heritage site. The most amazing artwork of that time has been beautifully carved on two pillars of the fort, known as Kirti Stabh and Vijay Stabh. It is believed that it was built by Mauryans in 7th century and was further modified by rulers of Mewar. It is also known as water fort as it used to contain 80 water bodies. Now only 22 exist. This fort leaves an unforgettable impression with its 4 palaces, 19 temples, water bodies and number of other sites to watch.
11. Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur
It is in Jodhpur city of Rajasthan. What makes it different from other fort is that it is built on an elevated platform. It has 7 gates, one of them still have impressions of cannonballs. It was built by Rao Jodha of Rathore dynasty in 1459 BC.
This fort is in Malvan town of district Sindhudurg, Maharshtra. It was built in 1667 by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj a great king of Indian history. It is built near Arabian Sea by the king to counter the invasion by Dutch, French, British and Portuguese. This fort has zigzag rampart with 42 bastions, apart from this a massive quantity of about 72000 Kg of iron was used for the construction of this fort. Its main entrance is so constructed that it cannot be identified from outside. It has a hidden tunnel which goes under the island for 3 km, in the sea for 12 km and from there 12 km to a nearby village. It was partially closed by Britishers after abandoning it.
