Good Bye to EV Charging Stations! Toyota Unveils Easily Swappable Hydrogen Fuel Cell Batteries

How in the future we will power our cars is the concern and prime focus of Toyota. The conventional fossil fuel, hybrid mode of fossil and electricity, and now the possible way with great scope is electric vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cell. Toyota unveils its futuristic compact swappable cartridges of hydrogen as a power solution to the fuel cell powered electric vehicles. Toyota has unveiled the power banks at Mobility Show held in Japan, 2024.

These cartridges at first sight looks like an oversized AA batteries. These can be used to power the car or any other device which needs the power. Once discharged after the use, these batteries can be swapped easily with the new hydrogen cartridges to keep the car running.

The surprising fact that when none of the big players of automobile industry are manufacturing the hydrogen powered vehicles from commercial or consumer focus point of view, Toyota has come out with this unique and much easier way of powering the vehicle with hydrogen. This initiative of Toyota will encourage other players of the industry to think, innovate and move the car buyers towards hydrogen vehicles as better option of future mobility.

The key highlights of Toyota’s announcement is that they have reduced “the weight and size of hydrogen tanks, which were earlier very difficult to deal with because of their large size, but now can be carried easily by hand”. The hydrogen cartridges introduced by Toyota do not look like larger that big Bluetooth speaker, and can easily be fixed.

Thinking way beyond not only powering the cars, Toyota plans to use these hydrogen cartridges to power our home, source to burn for cooking. The Rinnai Corporation and Toyota has collaborated to show off the concept stove powered by these hydrogen cartridges, the concept looks very impressive.

No doubt we have to still wait to actually utilize these cartridges in our cars and home; Toyota has plans to work with other companies to use them as early as possible. Toyota is looking forward to tie up with companies and startups from the perspective of their capabilities to provide service, developing and selling of these portable cartridges. These steps of Toyota will strengthen its capabilities and efforts creating green hydrogen society.
