One of the very beautiful yet unexplored lakes of Uttarakhand is Lake Kak Bhushundi Tal. This is a sacred place for the locals and is now gaining bit popularity among the nature lover across the country. The lake is spread in a small area, and is about 1 kilometer in length. This sacred and beautiful lake is surrounded by lush green flora and fauna of Himalayan region. This lake seems like a beautiful green cradle at the bottom of Hathi Parvat. The scenic view at the banks of lake gives a glimpse of a perfect painting of God on the canvas of nature. The banks become colourful when flowers blooms with different shades- pink, orange, purple, mauve, crimson and all other colours which one can imagine. The adorable lake with its emerald green colour water with its eye-catching surrounding makes the visitor to forget the hardships and exhaustion of travel. The area comes under UN world Heritage site and is under the supervision of Nanda Devi Biosphere reserve for natural diversity.
In the lap of mountain Hathi Parvat, one can reach the lake in two ways- either from Bhyundar village near to Ghangria or from Govind Ghat a place also famous as the starting point for the Valley of flowers. The first route is real thrill and full of hardship of nature, it goes through forests infested with bear, full of big shrubs, rivers, glaciers, passes and off course the slippery rocky path.
Mythological Importance
The two huge irregular shaped rocks above the lake, sitting on the spur of Hathi Parvat are the real hero for its mythological importance. According to the local belief, they are Kaga (crow) and Garuda (Eagle), sitting there and having a hot discussion on the affairs of universe.
As per folklore a learned Brahmin from Ayodhya once unfortunately incurred the wrath from the Saint Lomash, living near the lake. The Brahmin was cursed by the sage and as result turned into a Kaga (Crow). The same crow was known as Kak Bhushundi our mythology, who once discussed about the truth of incarnation of Lord Vishnu as Ram to the King of eagles, Garuda.
A lake where crow fly to die: Locals do believe that crow fly to this lake for dying. Generally numbers of shattered feathers can be seen around the lake, yet no significance proof or witnesses that crow fly here for dying.
