We all are grownup hearing about mysterious and unbelievable creation of ancient times, such as pyramids, the mysterious temples of Machu Pichhu , Inca’s construction. These all gigantic marvels seem not to be the work of man of that age. In India there is a similar sort of marvel which is not as popular as like these one around the world. The Kailashnath or Kailasa Temple in Maharashtra, India.
This temple dedicated to lord Shiva is about 1200 years old; the real amazing fact about it is that it has been carved from a single rock in Ellora. It is 29 kilometres away from the city of Aurangabad. It is a part of the series of 34 temples of Ellora caves. This beautiful temple is a living glimpse of Dravidian style of architecture from 8th century. The accurate dimensional proportions depict the mathematical and mensuration knowledge of that time. The sculptors made to perfection will force you to think about technology used by the people of that time, probably the age of hand tools and no machines.
Even though no sound proof is available about this amazing temple, but few researchers say that temple was built during the period of 756-774 AD by King Krishna-I of Rashtrakuta dynasty. The temple is about 164 feet deep, 109 feet wide, and 98 feet high. The concept of this temple was to make it resemble mount Kailash, the home of Lord Shiva in Indian mythology.
The Carvation
The temple is hidden down in the ground, and all the sculpture galleries built in it were interlinked with flying stone bridges, most of which are now fallen with time. According to the researchers about 400,000 tons of rocks were carved and scooped to construct this gigantic sculpture. The construction methodology used for it was vertically top down, instead of traditional front on-wards. The temple has world’s largest cantilever ceiling. As per researchers all this construction was done using only three types of chisels and men hammering.
A huge Nandi Maharaj (Lord Shiva’s Bull) image is in front similar to the tradition followed for Lord Shiva temples. The statue of Lord Shiva is about 7 meter high, including housing for it. The base of the temple is carved with number of elephant statues, giving a glimpse that entire temple has been lifted by them.
Interior: The inside of the temple is full of pillars, windows, rooms for gathering and a huge stone Shiv Lingam. The inner walls are also carved with statues of different gods and erotic male and female images. Two pillars for flagship are also there and are known as Dhwajasthambhas.
9.It is the only structure visible from helicopter out of 32 caves of Ellora.
These amazing facts about the temple makes researchers to feel that these are among the constructions made by Aliens in ancient time, as ideally should have taken centuries to build, given the lack of technological ability back then.
